Short passages

  1. Look for these things :
    1. Shifts, attacks & contradictions
    2. Supports
    3. Authors opinions
  2. Common beliefs are usually contradicted later on
  3. Write for meta content per sentence as well - is it a historical fact, support, attack opinion, prediction, time shift ?

Long passages

  1. Read para 1 slowly & note down 2-3 points about idea, assumption, attack etc. Identify “attacks” really well & predict them beforehand if possible

  2. Go through the remaining paras faster, slow down when you encounter

    1. transition words (eg:however)
    2. people’s opinions
    3. words that indicate para structure (eg : in addition, and)
    4. words where time shifts are involved (eg : former

    Note 1-2 points max in each para. Skim over details

  3. Look in final para if author includes “final idea” - a final kind of implication or final conclusion

  4. Easiest (”big picture” ones) → easy specific ( difficult
